This painting is from a photograph of the Cape Heceta Lighthouse taken during a hike with my son Stephen over Cape Heceta. I liked the perspective coming down to the lighthouse after hiking Cape Heceta. This lighthouse is a true 130 year old treasure on the Oregon Coast close to our home in Oregon.
The whole stretch of ocean along Pistol River on the Oregon Coast is beautiful and dynamic. I photograph the haystack rocks almost every time I pass through. Liked this photograph with the road curve and railing and ocean color and thought it was a great seascape subject. I’ve learned this area is known as a great parasurfing spot.
Camel Rock is a beautiful part of the Trinidad Humboldt County coast. I snapped a few photos walking around on the sand at this beach while waiting for a friend who was there on the phone. No surfers out that day, but people and families enjoying a nice day at this somewhat secluded beach.
I painted this scene plein air overlooking my hometown of Los Gatos over a few sessions from Glen Ridge Avenue, my neighborhood from my youth. Lots of great memories here! Wonderful skateboarding from Hernandez to Glen Ridge to Bachman Avenue where I lived. And the town of Los Gatos, what a great place to grow up in the 50’s and 60’s!
This was painted plein air in the spring of 1980 from around Woodrow Avenue in Santa Cruz. This stretch from Steamer Lane (Lighthouse) to Mitchell Cove is beautiful and always wonderful to walk along. I spent tons of time around here surfing, going to UC Santa Cruz and overall enjoying the beauty that is Santa Cruz.
This view of Santa Cruz was painted from the east side of the UC Santa Cruz campus. This painting is a plein air favorite of mine. Many shades of green. What can you say, Santa Cruz is beautiful and UC Santa Cruz is beautiful. I'm very fortunate to have spent two years there - had my surfboard in my car everyday.
Crossed Paths was painted plein air on the UC Santa Cruz campus in the spring of 1980. The fields are a beautiful green at this time of year. The campus walking and biking paths are a great way to get around campus. Love the stop sign to avoid accidents.
Painted at Terrace Point in Santa Cruz plein air looking south. It was extremely windy but beautiful. Painting blew off the easel a couple times before calling it quits after a couple hours. I love how this painting evokes the windy conditions through the dynamic brush strokes and sketchiness. There is sand in the paint on the canvas from the conditions.
Painted from a photograph taken in the Spanish Basque country while driving from Madrid to San Sebastián/Donostia in 2018. While driving I asked my wife Linda, “Quick! Take some photos of the cows!” The bonus was the beautiful landscape and the wonderful old farmhouse and outbuildings. I love this countryside!
